About MTG Crossing

The goal of MTG Crossing is to allow fans of Magic: the Gathering to receive personalised booster packs from all over the world, for free. The main idea is if you send personalised booster packs, you will receive personalised booster packs.

Why?

Because, like the creator of this website there are lots of people who like the thrill of opening booster packs and getting cards that they are looking for. They, however, also have a whole heap of cards collecting dust that might be of interest to other people.

The idea was inspired by an unexpected free mystery card in a set of Magic cards ordered online. The surprise was great and the card was especially picked to go well with the cards ordered. At the same time I was introduced to Postcrossing, an online community for worldwide postcard exchange.

MTG Crossing is a service combining the surprise of the hand-picked mystery card and the excellent exchange system used by Postcrossing.

How does it work?

The short version:

  1. Request a random address via the website.
  2. Mail 15 cards out of your own collection (a personalised booster pack based on the member's profile) to the address.
  3. Wait for the pack to be registered.
  4. Wait to receive your own personalised booster pack.
  5. Register the received pack in the system.
  6. Start from the top!

The long version:

The first step is to request a random addres to send a personalised booster pack to. The website will display the address and profile of another member and a Pack Identifier (e.g.: NL-NL-52). You then mail the pack, 15 cards hand-picked from your own collection, to that member.

The member receives the pack and registers it using the Pack Identifier that is on the pack. At this point, you are eligible to receive a pack from another member. Which cards you will get in your pack are a surprise, but you can give hints what you would like to receive via your profile and wishlist.

You can have up to 4 packs traveling at any single time. Every time one of the packs you send is registered, you can request another address. The number of packs allowed to travel at any single time goes up the more packs you send are registered.
